Green Eggs and Ham Sandwiches

(Karl posting). I hope Jen will forgive me for the following post...

This is what we had for dinner tonight. I had my doubts when Jen started puree-ing a blender full of spinach. I suspect Jen wasn't quite sure either, mostly because she was saying "I'm not quite sure about this!" as she was adding the egg mixture & putting it in the oven. In fact, as a back-up plan, she whipped up some great ham sandwiches - which by the way were awesome. Kyle called them "ambrosia" (with the voice of Dr. Cockroach from Monsters v. Aliens). Back to the green stuff: The "souffle" came out after the sandwiches. There was a sudden look of horror across all the boys' faces (including this one) as we looked down at this...

Joren was first to bravely comment on it. He said, "I love food, but I don't want to eat THIS!" Jonathan said, ehem... "It looks like grass that was pooped out." I have to admit a little "egging" on of the comments as they continued. Jen had a great sense of humor about the whole thing and we just laughed and laughed. By the way, it was actually quite delicious with a little added salt. It tasted like a very "spinachy" quiche. I think everyone ended up trying it and liking it. I was explaining to a couple of the boys later that even though something doesn't look good, it can end up tasting very good. Kyle put it in his own words, "Something can look like cow plop, but taste like ice-cream" Well put, Kyle. So I guess the Soylent Green Souffle stays on list of recipes after all. Jen you're a fantastic cook and have a great sense of humor with all of us monkeys. Thank you and we love you.

Catch Up

I love this photo of Karl & Kaden. Kaden loves to touch our faces.

We had snow a couple of days before Halloween. The boys had a blast playing in our backyard.

This is Joren's playdough creation he calls a "Cheese butterfly pumpkin".

Joren and elephants.
I finally took Joren to the zoo without his big brothers. He's been begging to do this for months. It was a beautiful cool day and the very best part.....the parking lot was empty! We enjoyed strolling around at a leisurely pace and eating our lunch by the duck pond. We even had some mealtime entertainment when a swarm of zoo employees arrived to capture an elusive pair of ducks and relocate them to their winter indoor quarters.

I noticed this fun teether in one of my sister's photos and had to get one. It's the Baby Banana Teether Toothbrush. Kaden loves the rubbery texture and I love the silly poses and cute comments we get.

The boys had a great Halloween. This is my only photo unfortunately. I took it as they were walking off to Trick or Treat. Jonathan wanted to do a whole family Star Wars theme but Kyle didn't want to participate--he's a magician-- and I didn't want to spend any money on costumes for Karl and I. I did think about it for a while though and we were almost a great couple of Han Solo and Princess Leia. Next year maybe. Joren is Jango Fett and enjoyed watching the part in the movie where he gets his head cut off.

Kaden is looking pudgy in this photo. I was glad to be able to recycle Joren's Yoda costume. The boys are still into Star Wars 4 years later.

Kyle looking dapper on a Sunday afternoon.

Joren looking charming.

Kaden 6 months old

Jonathan's photo should be here but he was crying when it was his turn.

Deep Thoughts, by Joren

I was reading childrens' poems to the kids tonight and when I read the line "What are little boys made of?" Joren didn't pause to listen to the rest. He just answered... "skin".

Randomly, Joren told me while we were preparing for bedtime, "Vampires are allowed to potty on the ground, like horses".

More Excuse for Hot Chocolate

After a beautiful sunny day yesterday we woke up to snow. The boys as expected were thrilled and of course Joren said "It's Christmas!". They hurried to dress for snow play and were making big plans...angels, snowball fights, snowmen etc. Jonathan & Kyle lasted a good 20 minutes before coming back in. Joren stayed out and while I was inside with Kaden, he knocked and I answered to find this sweet face:

He said he didn't want to be outside alone and would I please come build a snowman with him. This is what we came up with:

Joren called it a snowkid because it was little like kids, not like a man. He also set some rules for snowkid building. There are three; it takes lots and lots of snow, it has to have a whole carrot for a nose, and, no melting.

Did that come from him??

Mommy moment--I think I will miss the dirty handprints on the windows when the kids are grown...but not this:

All clean.
